Motorcycles require a lot of maintenance work. One loose bolt or a minor damage can result in a major accident. Before going for a long ride, you need to make sure that your bike is in proper condition to take you down the road. You do not have to be a pro mechanic to maintain your bike. You can do some basic things which will keep your bike in good condition.
The following are some of the things you need to do to maintain your bike:
Keep your bike clean:
Keeping your bike clean is one of the best things you can do to maintain it. Your bike looks best when it is nicely polished and clean. While riding, so much dust and other dirt get accumulated on your bike, and it is nice if you clean off such dirt and dust on a regular basis. During the cleaning process, you might be able to find if some part of the bike has a fault or if some bolt is lost or needs replacement.
Changing the engine and gear oil:
You need to make sure that you change your engine and gear oil on a regular basis. If you do not change the oil, then it can lead to further damage. If you are not sure when to replace the oils in your bike, you can refer to the owner’s manual that is given to you and check how frequent the oils in your bike needs to be changed.
Changing spark plugs:
Spark plugs are the things which cause the spark in the bike to cause ignition. Depending on the bike you will have to change the spark plugs accordingly. Refer the owner’s manual and check how often the spark plugs need to be changed.
Lubricate the chains of the bike:
Try to lubricate the chains of your motorcycle so that it will last for a long time. When you do not oil the chain, it will get heated, and due to excess heat and it will get damaged very soon. Also, make sure that your chain is neither too tight nor too loose. If it is too tight, then it can be damaged due to high tension and if it is too lose it is more likely that the chain will fall of the sprockets.
Keep an eye on the tyre threads:
If you feel like there is a change when you handle the bike, you need to know that your bike has some issue with the tyre and consider changing the tyres of the bike. If your tyre is underinflated, it will heat up and will not give you a smooth ride. Over-inflated tyres also will not give you the right grip, and thus you need to make sure to get the optimal inflation of air in your tyres.
